The Historic town of Penola was founded in 1850 by Alexander Cameron and features many buildings dating back to the last century.

John Riddoch Interpretive Centre - located in Arthur Street in the old Mechanics Institute Building which was built in 1869. 

Displays feature Penola history from the days of the aborigines to the present day.

The Centre also houses the Penola Hydrocarbon Centre opened in November 1998 and the Tourist Information Centre which is situated near the front entrance.
